A luminous piece in the tradition of Humboldt and Rachel Carson. Deep ecology is our only bulwark against self-obsession and Schadenfreude. Trees are our guardians: they keep us sane. How much horror, religious or corporate, has spewed forth from deforestation and desert regions? Trees are fountains, not only of water but also of sanity. When they perish, we perish.

Yes. Trees heal us, protect us. Their indwelling elemental spirits are pure-hearted and childlike. Trees store radioactive fallout, protecting other species. When we burn trees, we unleash our own toxins into the sky to rain down upon us and all the animal and plant life. Coming from Britain you must know the extreme melancholy exuded by landscapes stripped of their trees by the mercantile barons for sheep grazing~ conversely the intense magic expressed by surviving trees, copses, hedgerows and thickets. And dolmens ~ as in that tiny elemental home in your video.

Yes, all of nature has elemental spirits, I have captured some in photos. The Peruvian Shamans know this and most of their work is a constant dialogue with them. I'm glad you understand them. The UK government, corporations and their policies keep pushing for destruction of trees. They chopped down a lot more trees to make way for 5G during 2020 and continue to so there and globally.

Such a beautiful well-written essay. Thank you for educating me. I’ve never realized this about the Amazon. We all need to listen to nature. 🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️
